Phil and Barbara Grobbel had a vision.  Their vision was to combine their talents and start their
own food service operation.  They made this vision come true in June of 2006 upon the opening
of G.Philip’s Café-Catering-Cooking. Located inside of the Downriver Fun and Fitness Center
preparing “made from scratch” soups, salads and sandwiches.  G.Philip’s also manages 1200
sq feet of beautiful banquet space booking meetings of 10 to 200 people.  Lastly,  G.Philip’s
caters to the businesses downriver delivering breakfast and lunch to many companies on a
daily basis.    

Phil and Barb know that high quality food with good honest pricing and service guaranteed to
exceed every expectation is the key to their growth and success.  Both have many years of
experience respecting the customer and committing to building long-standing relationships
with each and every one of them.  With that commitment and the promise of “every bite matters”,
G.Philip’s is on the move feeding downriver and Detroit one business and one household at a
time.

Owner/Proprietor, Phil Grobbel is an experienced Corporate Food and Beverage Director
leading large teams of chef’s and banquet staff to multi millions in food and beverage sales as
well executing award winning outstanding events.  He is also a certified Executive Award
winning Chef.  In his 30 years of service in both hotels and exquisite restaurants, he has
created and implemented a wide range of menus and events.

Sales and Marketing Director Barbara Grobbel is a true catering expert.  Barbara has been
selling catering since the late 80’s in hotels such as Sheraton, Marriott, Doubletree and Holiday
Inn.  Barb has been an active member of the National Assoc of Catering Executives, which has
brought many years of additional training where she has learned the trends and has met and
works with florists, bakers, rental companies and more.  Barb’s expertise is menu creating
based on the needs and desires of her clients.  She has a wonderful way of making each one
of them feel they are her only customer with her professional and caring personality, she is truly
a wonderful person to work with. Barb also serves as an Ambassador for the Southern Wayne
County Chamber of Commerce.     


Operations Manager Brandon Hatfield is an accomplished food and beverage Professional.
With over nine plus years in the industry his proven track record speaks for itself. Although he
spent the last four years in the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS he hasn't lost a single step,
and still has that special talent of bringing happiness to all his guests. "I love making people
happy especially their taste buds" (Brandon Hatfield telling a catering client on November
14th.)  You won't want to do business with anyone else after doing business with him.


Sous Chef Benjamin Schultheis is a 2009 Graduate of Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts
Program. Ben has had the privilege to work under some well known local chefs including C.E.
C. Shawn Loving, Loving Spoonful/Schoolcraft College and C.E.C. Brian Polcyn, Five Lakes
Grill. On top of that he loves to make YOU happy by serving YOU and your party great food and
service.  He has a real knack for cooking and preparing great food.  He joined the G. Philips
Catering crew to further his knowledge of the catering and banquet world and give back what he
has already learned and accomplished.
